PRELUDE

Where – On Princess Audrey – a live-aboard cruise boat in Maldives, somewhere in the Indian Ocean.

What I have been up to – Just got to the boat last night. Today we did 2 dives so far, had tons of downtime just lazing around.

Thoughts – I haven’t had a proper skincare regimen since… I don’t even remember! So this Glow challenge is really interesting for me. Let’s see if I have the discipline to go through with it!

Also it’s coincidental that I’m here in Maldives for a 7-day dive trip during this challenge! Which I guess it’s as good a time as any to:

  • Start wearing sunscreen
  • Spend some time looking at my face (LOL!)
  • Start a habit of taking care of my skin, since the only thing I’ve been busy with is EAT, SLEEP, DIVE, REPEAT!

Day 1

What Glow means to me – looking radiant – not just from having great skin, but also feeling GREAT inside. Because happiness radiates from within!

My personal Glow Challenge:

  • Take time to reflect on my life, give thanks for the good stuff and let go of the bad/negative stuff!
  • Take care of my skin by sticking to the Fresh skincare regimen, drink loads of water.

Thoughts – today was a great day! I saw THREE Manta rays for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE! They were swimming so up-close I could almost touch them. Such beautiful creatures they are. We also spotted a dead humpback whale. I guess seeing a dead whale is better than no whale at all? It was gorgeous! It was so big! Life is precious! And short! Treasure everyday! Watch every sunset!

Day 2

Highlights – Barre class! Did a 30-minute workout with some friends – worked on our legs, core and gluteus plus a little HIIT segment!

Dived with a whale shark after spending 1.5 hours waiting for its appearance – what a majestic creature.

Went for a really challenging night dive. Where the dive guide brought fish down to feed the sharks and at least 30 were swimming around us! INSANE! Some were so close that their faces/fins smacked my face!

Thoughts – feels so good doing a proper workout and breaking a sweat! Diving is tough but it’s not the same kind of burn/exercise, it gives your lungs a good workout and it’s definitely a mental exercise to overcome your fear of the unknown. But sometimes its just good to sweat it out with a good old plank.

Day 3

It’s the 4th day on board this boat and it’s been amazing but challenging so far! The food is great – 3 meals a day at fixed times; waking up at 6am everyday and being in bed by 11pm is certainly a good habit!

I wasn’t able to get my Gorilla Press juices before the trip. So, I decided to make my own blended juices comprising of carrots, celery and apples. Was a little fibrous but it still tasted REALLY refreshing!

We were also feeling the exhaustion of the past 3 days of diving, so after our last dive we filled up the hot tub jacuzzi and enjoyed our beers in it. Felt so good having those muscles relaxed and enjoying the company of awesome friends.

Skincare steps – just the Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask as my skin felt really dry, and piled on the Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream.

Day 4

Only did 1 dive today because my body was really not up for it and to be honest, it isn’t really safe to dive if you’re feeling anxious or unwell. The thing I have learnt about diving is that it is 50% physical ability, 50% mental willpower/psyching yourself up. While the certification course prepares you and teaches you what you need to do in situations such as drifting away due to high current, it requires you to be absolutely calm in order to execute the steps. I could go into more detail but it will bore you. The long and short of it is – TRAIN YOUR MIND. That was my unexpected challenge of the trip.

We brought out the huge slide and blob where we got launched off the top roof deck of the boat/off the blob into the ocean. Such an ADRENALINE rush!

Day 5

Final day of diving! SO SAD! But I’ve got so much more confidence in the water now!

After spending 5 days of consecutive masking (I rotated between the different masks), my skin has been doing great! I’m getting a nice tan, pretty sure all that sunblock helped me not get burnt (YET!). My skin feels really supple to touch, and all that relaxation and rest is making me so calm and happy. Staring into the night sky at the stars on the top of our deck is amazing! Stars make you feel so small.

We got to another private island today. Love that we had the entire place to ourselves. 24 of us came here not knowing everyone very well, but I think each of us really bonded and got to know each other a lot better! Friendship is a beautiful thing!

Laugh a lot! At yourself, at situations, with friends!

With 24 hours of non-dive time, I took my liberties with time to pamper my skin and hair as well as to indulge in girly things, including having heart to heart conversations with girlfriends on this trip. Back to reality.

Red eye flight. BACK TO WEBARRE! 2 classes back-to-back – I’ve missed teaching!

The best thing about returning from holiday is WEBARRE (and BOOMER, my dog!)

Feels good to workout. Muscles are sore (but never sorry). Fight the exhaustion.

Flights KILL my skin. Thank God for the Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask!

Reminder to self – work will always be tough. Time will always not be enough. But don’t forget to MAKE TIME and take care of yourself.

Take your vitamins and supplements. Drink lots of water. Exercise.

P.S. A long day at work, barre after that. Gotta keep going and fighting for the glow!

Detox! Eat well = eat clean once in a while!

Had my Gorilla Press juice delivered today, just what I needed! The past few days saw me struggling to get back to my hectic routine, which made my body crave for FOOD non-stop, throughout the day. Having a well-stocked pantry became a little bit of a curse since chips were the easiest solution for hunger! BUT I switched out ALL my snacks for juices instead AND IT FELT GOOD!

I’m not one who can do a juice diet since I’m so active and my metabolism rate is naturally high, so I didn’t kid myself that I could go for a juice cleanse. HOWEVER, I’m now fully convinced of the benefits of #snackclean!

That’s it. I’m joining this term. Watch me take 2017 with HEALTHY SNACKS! (But, can I start #snackclean after CNY?)

One of the best things about moving back to CBD is definitely my… LUNCH BREAKS. Hear me out:

I am within 1km radius of
at least 30-50% of friends that I love, so I get to meet them for lunch!

The food choices at Telok Ayer and Raffles Place (I have 2 offices so I shuttle back and forth) are AWESOME.

I get to teach barre during my lunch break because the Telok Ayer Studio is just 2 minutes from my desk!

One of my favorite lunch places is GRAIN TRADERS! Granted, it’s $15 for a salad BUT it has a protein, a carb, 3 sides, and tons of yummy options to choose from! I LOVE IT!

Squeezing in a lunch time class might seem a little daunting, but honestly it feels really good! WEBARRE offers lunch time classes everyday and I teach some of the classes too! PSST: there are shower facilities so no worries about a quick sweat sesh!

GLOW TIP: Take a good lunch break! Doesn’t mean LONG. I just mean GOOD!

When the glow challenge coincides with CNY, aka the biggest feasting event of the year (close fight with Christmas), one just has to embrace the celebrations and enjoy the lovely family time.

My favorite part of Chinese New Year has always been dressing up (and the shopping for clothes prior to that)! This year I picked an outfit that is in my favorite color and a shade of red lipstick that I personally think makes my face glow even more!

Scrumptious food can’t be ignored and we massively pigged out on the yearly tradition of abalone etc. I took it easy and had an anticipatory ‘detox’ breakfast before the crazy eating began. 2 hotpots down and more to go!

CNY GLOW TIP: Just smile. Enjoy the time with family and friends. As well as the long holiday weekend!

Also, multi-masking the night before definitely helped in achieving a glow today!

YAAAS! I did it! Very accomplished!

Today I:

  • Had a juice for breakfast
  • Taught a barre class before visiting started
  • Caught up with my beautiful girlfriend who is getting married
  • Had a scrumptious lunch since I was craving western food

Final thoughts after the challenge:

  • Very accomplished
  • Happy that I’ve started and stuck to an awesome AND doable skincare routine
  • Noticed the glow on my face gradually improving since placing emphasis on it!

GLOW TIP: Love yourself! That takes discipline and a daily reminder, but it’s worth it!
